this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Для ядра требуется процессор x86-64, но обнаружен только процессор i686. Как я могу установить Lubuntu / Ubuntu?

How To fix “This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. This processor is unsupported in RHEL 7.” when booting from VirtualBox

Error: This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
This processor is unsupported in RHEL 7.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

[Note: This tutorial is under the assumption that your physical CPU is 64-bit and your installed host OS is 64-bit and will only work in these circumstances.]

Cause:

This mainly happens due two reasons:

Solution :

Step 1: Right Click on the Centos/RHEL OS which is giving you the error and then click on “Settings“.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Step 2 : In General Tab, check the OS Type and see if you are able to change to “Redhat 64-bit” and follow step 4.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Step 3 : If you are only able to see 32-bit entries in the OS type list and your physical CPU supports 64-bit, this means that Vt-X is disabled in your BIOS. So, restart your PC and boot into your BIOS, enable Vt-X.

For reference, I have a Asus Maximus VII Ranger Motherboard and here is how I enabled Vt-X in my BIOS.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

[ Optional : If your CPU supports Vt-d, enable that too, it will improve functionality and performance of your Virtual Machine. Some CPUs will not have the Vt-d function, if you dont have it then you can ignore it]

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Step 4 : Restart your computer and boot back your CentOS/RHEL VM and it should come right up.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Hope this fixed the issue. If this tutorial helped you,do leave a thumbs up a comment below. Hope this helps! 🙂

This kernel requires x86-64 cpu, but only detected i686 cpu

by Harian » 26. Feb 2015, 18:09

After much initial difficulty I finally managed to install Kali Linux 64 Bit ISO into Virtual Box and made it to the Boot Up menu but whenever I selected an installation option it kept saying it required an x86-64 CPU and I’m not sure how to enable this. I noticed under System Settings that I was unable to access the Acceleration tab; and that I couldn’t adjust the Processor(s) beyond 1 under the Processor tab.

I’ve been trying to teach myself digital forensics you see and so really need this particular Linux distribution to work on my Windows 7 PC. Does anyone here know how to work Kali Linux on Virtual Box and specifically what to do about this requirement of an x86-64 CPU when only an i686 CPU is detected?

Oh I can read allright. Seems that you can’t comprehend. Virtualbox on my machine cannot translate the CPU’s virtualization instructions for 64 bit guests. Vmware could do that.

VirtualBox can run 64bit guests just fine, under the same conditions as VMWare. No translation or simulation is involved: in a VM the guest code runs natively on the host processor. So, all that really matters is the host CPU capability. Just make sure you don’t try to run both VM platforms at the same time (including nested).

I had this issue as well today (not only today) and finally this did the trick :

Set the «Version» and «Type» properties to «Other» and «Other/64 bit» (similar to that anyway)
It was set to Linux (which matched the client OS), and only after that change if finally worked.

The option was already set to allow virtualisation on this machine, but on a lot of machines that seems to be an issue indeed.

Excellent. your info save me a lot of time! THANKS a lot!

Hi, I have experienced the same message, and I have noticed the VM installed under General tab: Red Hat 32. I removed the VM and re-created it using the same process and it worked. I have Lenovo Thinkpad T440p, the only difference between the two tries was that I initially did the import prior to modifying the device BIOS to support VM functionality. I changed the BIOS later but had that error.

The message comes from the Linux Guest, not from VirtualBox, but it means that you tried to install a 64bit Linux guest into a 32bit VM.

The most likely reason you chose a 32bit profile in VirtualBox is because you didn’t see any 64bit profiles, and that would be because VT-x is unavailable for any of the reasons mentioned in the FAQ.

Maybe because they’re not actually required? In fact, I was running VirtualBox on my Win7 other host and I hadn’t enabled the NX-bit by ignorance/accident. There was no problem running 64-bit guests. None.

What most probably happened in the thread you’re linking is that the user shut down the host completely and restarted it. This is required for such «invasive» changes and the OP didn’t actually do it when they had VT-x switched to enabled.

Fix This this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu

this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Trying to install kali Linux or Ubuntu on Oracle VirtualBox or VMware?
but when running the virtual machine you got this message ” This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot – please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU “.

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

Case one There is many case you are receiving this message for but the most common one can be fixed from your bios settings on intel CPU you have to enable ” Intel Virtualization Technology ” and on AMD CPU you have to enable “AMD V” this will simply fix this error

how to enable Virtualization Technology:

Case tow on another case your host operating system is 32-bit while the system you are trying to run is 64-bit
to fix that try to run a 32bit system just like your host system is 32-bit
but if you still want to run a 64bit guest over a 32bit host, you can do that by enabling Virtualization option or Vtx/X option.

Case three but what if you tried all of that and still getting the same error ( This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU )
in this case, the problem may be in your virtual machine settings
Check your virtual machine configuration and make sure you chose the right CPU type,
if you are trying to install a 32bit guest system then chose 32bit and if you are trying to install 64-bit guest system chose 64-bit.
Note if you are trying to run a 32bit system over a 64bit CPU I should work fine, but the error comes when we try to install 64bit over 32bit
so in simple words :
To be able to run a 64-bit OS in Virtualbox we have to make sure the virtual machine’s architecture is set to 64-bit too.

Virtualization Technology (VT) enables a CPU to act as if you have several independent computers, to enable several operating systems to run at the same time on the same machine.
it’s available in two versions: VT-x, for 32bit processors, and VT-i, for 64bit processors

For AMD users you can check it with this tools proved by AMD
AMD-V detection utility

or you can use Microsoft Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool, this tool work on both intel and AMD processors Link

Intel i5-2410M CPU running at 2.30 GHz running a Windows 7 64-bit operating system.

I have VirtualBox 4.13 installed.

I am trying to run ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso but I get an error

this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu

I even enabled the Intel Virtualization in the BIOS settings and then tried to use the image again but I still get the same error.

Is there any other reason why I can’t use the image?

My best guess is that you somehow configured the VM for 32 bit execution instead of 64.

Pay special note to the third attribute OSType how it has a _64 at the end. I would suggest when creating a VM for Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit to use a VM type = Linux and Version = Ubuntu (64 bit).

this kernel requires an x86 64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu что делать

The issue is your virtualization is disabled from BIOS setting.

I came across same issue but enabling Virtualization from BIOS worked. I am working on Windows 10. Initiallty you can disable windows Hyper option from
control panel->Program and Features->Turn windows features on or off->un-select Hyper-V. save this settings
Now go to
BIOS setting-> select Advance option->
Here you can see virtualization option just enable this option and reboot your machine saving your settings.
Delete any VirtualBox which is present earlier that caused issue. Now click on New option of your VirtualBox you can see option to install 64-bit operating systems.
